It started with a simple question: what if I miss something?
When our co-founder — a veterinarian — opened her own practice, she was on her own. No hallway consults. No second set of eyes. Just her and the cases in front of her.
In larger practices, a colleague could glance at a radiograph and offer a quick opinion. Going solo meant losing that safety net. The alternative — sending studies to a board-certified radiologist — was expensive, slow, and impractical for everyday cases. She didn't need a full radiology report. She just needed confidence.
Her husband had spent 15 years in technology, already deep in AI and machine learning. When he heard the problem, the answer felt obvious: we can build this.
The second opinion every vet deserves
He dug into her PACS system and found a trove of untapped data. Using modern machine learning — trained exclusively on veterinary images of dogs and cats, not repurposed human models — he built the first version of what would become Aletheias.
Our image-based AI screens every radiograph in under 5 seconds, flagging areas of interest and calculating measurements like VHS automatically. It doesn't replace the veterinarian's judgment — it gives them another perspective before they make the call.
Along the way, the founders learned two truths: AI only gets better with data, and clinics don't want "dumb" AI. That tension shaped Aletheias from day one — work directly with clinics to continuously improve, so every new case makes the next one smarter.
